Today I visited the Como Park conservatory to warm my bones and spend some time surrounded by green. We're entering that grim, gray part of winter where nothing seems to be alive and gray days are the norm. I don't mind that midwinter gloom- in fact I find it quite beautiful. But it still feels awesome to be surrounded by living things and I'm guessing this won't be the only visit to the conservatory this winter.
The light was so weird today, it gave the conservatory a sort of cool creepy vibe. It really accented the bizarreness of all these tropical plants thriving in the middle of a slushy freezey Saint Paul.
I spent a couple of hours sketching and writing on one of the many pretty benches here. This is the view from where I was sitting most of the time. Hi Saint Francis! (I think)
This Harriet Frishmuth sculpture is an excellent representation of the way you feel when you're in this place.
